Anxiety Symptoms – How To Determine That They Are There

The symptoms of anxiety are fairly common, as almost everyone feels anxious at least once in a while. You will know that it is time to do something about this condition if your daily routines are impossible to do because of the way you feel. In this article we will present several anxiety symptoms that people typically have and if you notice that your anxiety condition is worse than what is presented, it is time to see a doctor.

A typical symptom of anxiety that can occur first, and strikes a lot of people, is the lack of energy, or feeling rundown and tired all the time. The fatigue may actually be the result of insomnia and, as a result, you will not get enough sleep and will be lethargic the next day. However, sometimes people who are anxious may feel tired much of the time even when they do sleep for many hours. Your body and nervous system take the brunt of the punishment when anxiety causes you to worry all the time. The result? You become exhausted. If you have been suffering from extreme tiredness for a while, go see your doctor. If he or she cannot find a physical reason, you need to consider anxiety or stress as the problem. Relaxation techniques, which are easy to learn, can cause your mind to lighten up and your energy to return. Some people respond to specific situations by experiencing fear or anxiety. If you have this in an extreme case it may be a phobia, which can really affect your life and cause a lot of disturbance for you. A phobia is normally to something very specific such as being afraid of snakes, spiders or heights. Mild anxiety may be caused by it, or a full blown panic attack. Phobias that involve people, such as social phobia, or open spaces, known as agoraphobia can be especially problematic, as these make it hard to avoid the source of your fear. You do not need to let a phobia make you life difficult, you only need to seek help because there are loads of treatments that work.

Eating disorders are common in someone who is suffering from an anxiety disorder. They may under eat, overeat, or simply not even care if they follow a healthy diet. Self-sabotaging behaviors can also result from anxiety or stress. Some examples include being addicted to shopping, or smoking, or consuming alcohol, and drug use. Behaviors like these may anesthetize you for a little while, but they are examples of avoidance behavior and will not solve anything. When you are anxious, you could find yourself wanting to eat constantly and never being satisfied. Even when you’re not hungry you want to eat. This is not unusual. Of course, in the long run, these actions can be harmful to your health. When you make such poor food choices it will also alter the chemistry in your brain and, as a result, you can become even more anxious. You may experience severe anxiety symptoms or your symptoms might be mild. If you experience anxiety for any length of time, it’s best to seek some kind of treatment. If you research anxiety disorders online or in the bookstore, you will find a lot of viable self-help methods that you can try. Sometimes, however, the only solution for relief is to get professional help. These examples of how anxiety can invade your life are just some of the many situations you may encounter.

Panic Attack Treatments And Why You Need Them

It seems logical that someone suffering from something as scary as a panic attack would want to seek help as quickly as possible, but this isn’t always the case. Everyone has different symptoms when they have a panic attack and many people simply withdraw to their own space and keep the problem to themselves. By doing this you may find that your panic attacks will end up getting worse overtime. When you find yourself having a panic attack you really must seek out professional help so your panic attacks don’t end up getting worse.

If the reasons for your panic attacks is not talked about, then you could have them for the rest of your life. These can be quite far reaching such as with social phobias or agoraphobia or they can be more specific like not wanting to fly or ride in an elevator.

However, if your panic attacks are triggered by a specific scenario, this could be corrected by therapy. It’s far preferable to work on this issue for a few months than to have to avoid something for the rest of your life. Besides, if you fail to deal with the real reason for your panic attacks, then this issue might move to other parts of your life and become harmful. Some people are reluctant to seek help for panic attacks because they have a fear or reluctance about taking medication. When people hear about the possible side-effects of drugs, and the dangers of becoming addicted, they have reason to not want that type of treatment. It is easy to see why people fear medication, because many of the side-effects are certainly unwanted. A mental health professional or doctor can’t make you take drugs, so if you want therapy or other alternatives, that is your choice. Therapy is the best choice of treatment for panic attacks, according to some experts, even better than medication. Just because you don’t want to take medication, doesn’t mean that you can’t get help with therapy.

Depression is a common consequence for the people who have panic attacks, but never deal with them. A single panic attack left untreated can lead to more, and without ever getting help, the effects can keep building up until your life becomes unbearable. If the path continues downward, suicidal thoughts will follow depression. While anyone can become depressed, having a condition such as panic disorder can be a contributing factor. Yet when you get treatment for this problem, you’ll find that it’s possible to control the symptoms and live a normal life, so depression is far less likely. Depression can be a very big problem, but if you so choose, available treatment can be found, that is effective.

All in all, panic attacks are not something that you should deal with on your own. There are a lot of bad things that can happen like your getting other bad medical conditions or becoming hooked on drugs and alcohol. But with the proper treatment, you can manage your panic attacks and live your life fully, but if you ignore them, then they will continue to get worse.

What is a Yeast Infection?

Let’s be honest. While there are multiple types of yeast infections affecting all kinds of people, the first thing we often associate to the term “yeast infection” is the female genitalia. And this is for good reason, as this type of yeast infection (called “thrush”) is far and away the most common. But men are not in the clear. While considerably more rare, guys can be afflicted, too.

The main culprit in the case of the dreaded yeast infection is a little strain of fungus known as Candida albicans. This particular species of Candida (while by no means the only possible cause of a yeast infection) is seen in laboratories as an off-white colony of nasty yeast cells. In humans, the skin and mucus membranes are most susceptible to coming under its attack.

There are many places throughout the human body in which this Candida is more likely to grow out of control, resulting in infection. While it is ever present within the body, generally being stabilized by other flora and therefore harmless, it can certainly wreak havoc when the conditions are just right. The genitals, bowels, blood, mouth, and even dark, moist folds of skin (armpits, inner thighs, etc.) can very easily come under fire.

In yeast form, Candida albican can quickly clone itself through a process known as “budding.” Essentially, the cells form bulbs that grow out of them, staying attached until they’ve reached just the right size, at which time they dislodge… and the process continues. Kind of creepy, right? But in a nutshell, this is how yeast infections are formed.

Of course, the body’s conditions must be “just right” to harbor such an infection. Body temperature and your own internal pH balance both play significant roles in creating the perfect conditions for a yeast infection to occur. Remember, Candida is kept in check by certain flora. But your pH levels and core body temperature determine whether or not these flora can survive. If all is well, then Candida will remain “moderated.” But if your body conditions start killing off these essential flora, then all heck can break loose.

As the Candida clones itself and multiplies throughout the most vulnerable parts of the human body, it certainly makes its presence known. Some form of annoying or even intense pain generally accompanies a yeast infection. The affected area will often burn, itch, tingle, or become irritated and sore. And relief can be extremely difficult to come by, as scratching a yeast infection is a big no-no, due to its ability to spread the infection.

And guess what. It doesn’t just stop with irritated skin. There is a whole host of potential symptoms an afflicted person can experience. Joint swelling, fluid retention, coordination and balance issues, compromised memory and concentration, and even extreme shifts in mood can occur. Many yeast infection victims experience intense carbohydrate cravings, particularly cravings for sugary foods and alcoholic beverages.

Additional problems that can arise due to a yeast infection include discharge and sores. The mouth, genitals, and bowels are most prone to these unfortunate side effects. Additionally, bowel movements may become quite difficult to have, as digestive disorders could accompany a yeast infection.

As if this isn’t bad enough, a yeast infection can actually kill you! Individuals with compromised immune systems are particularly susceptible. AIDS patients, along with those who carry the HIV virus, are at much higher risk. Diabetics are, too. The bottom line is that a yeast infection is nothing to toy around with, and the sooner you can get an accurate diagnosis and get it cleared up, the better.

Is Acid Reflux Driving You Insane?

When the quality of your life is severely compromised by the nightmarish condition we call acid reflux disease, you’re willing to do just about anything to end the agony. If simple pleasures such as enjoying a cup of coffee or a meal with friends are stripped away from you due to this dreadful affliction, then please keep reading…

Severe heartburn is no joke. Anyone who’s suffered through an attack knows this full well. And when the attacks are relatively frequent, your entire life must change. You can’t consume any type of food or beverage without first consulting with your gut. It even controls when and how you sleep. Clearly, it’s time for you to take this control back!

How Does Reflux Happen? What Causes Heartburn?

Heartburn occurs when stomach acid makes its way back into the esophagus. A burning sensation and bitter taste are commonly experienced by heartburn sufferers.

If you are suffering more than a couple of times each week you may have the more serious problem of acid reflux disease – also known as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).

Not all heartburn is caused by GERD. Occasional heartburn can be caused by many different factors. However, if you have regular episodes there are a number of things you can do to help.

If you have regular heartburn, the first thing you should do is stop regularly using antacids. Antacids can alleviate the pain of occasional heartburn, but because they are designed to neutralize the acids in your stomach they can cause the stomach to create even MORE acid – a vicious cycle called ‘acid rebound’. Also, some antacids cause diarrhea or constipation.

Avoid heartburn-triggering foods such as caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, citrus, spicy or tomato-based foods as well as fatty or fried foods, onions or garlic.

Smoking or being overweight also increases the risk of GERD.

Lifestyle changes may help to control the symptoms.

Activities such as lying down after a meal, bending forward, lifting heavy items or eating large meals can cause the onset of acid reflux. Avoiding these activities after a meal and eating smaller portions may help.

A few natural products such as extract of orange peel are being researched for their abilities to curb heartburn.

Anyone. But it should be noted that pregnant women, the overweight and smokers are all good candidates.

Additionally, young babies have immature digestive systems, so they may be prone to GERD. Precautions like frequent burping and keeping the infant upright for 30 minutes after eating can minimize the occurrence. Older children may have to take precautions in diet and activity just as adults do.

You should always consult your physician when you suspect GERD, just to avoid future complications.

If you suspect GERD, contact your doctor right away. There can be harmful side effects of persistent heartburn including scarring of the esophagus, erosion of the teeth and even an increased risk of esophageal cancer.

How Can Yoga Benefit You?

With amazing health comes an amazing quality of life. I’m sure you can agree that the two are very well connected. And the more natural energy and “goodness” you have pumping through your veins, the happier, more productive, and more fulfilled you will be.

While diet can play an amazingly huge role in all this, exercise may be equally important. One great thing about yoga, specifically, is that it can be very therapeutic, regenerative, and practical. It can reinvigorate your entire body, allowing you to enjoy all those wonderful “vibrations” that put a smile on your face and turn your day-to-day existence into one you’re thrilled to call your own.

Even though yoga is commonly known as being an ancient Indian health practice, it truly has evolved throughout the centuries. It’s important to note that there is nothing “hocus-pocusy” about this artful exercise. It’s not religious, superstitious, or philisophical in nature. It’s very much a physical exercise that can produce amazing real-world results for your body… and your life!

Most of us think of yoga as an exercise involving a series of painful and unnatural poses. But the truth is, there is more than one form of yoga. Yes, the “painful pose” variety is among the most popular of these forms, but it is by no means the only one.

Milder forms of the exercise do, in fact, exist. It is up to you to find the level of instensity and difficulty you wish to embrace. As with virtually every type of exercise, the higher the level of discomfort you’re willing to endure, the greater your results are likely to be.

And oh, what incredible results you stand to enjoy! Many regular practitioners of yoga enjoy a youthful radience that often has them looking at least 10 to 15 years younger than they actually are. This is not only true of their faces, but their bodies, as well.

In fact, it’s not just an illusion. We’re not only after superficial results here, after all. These people are actually adding years to their lives by taking care of themselves via regular yoga participation.

Flexibility, muscularity, pep, and strength are just a few of the fantastic benefits you stand to gain by doing yoga. And these are the exact same benefits that are keeping these folks fresh, healthy, vital, and youthful for so many wonderful years!

Just look at the Yogis in India for a top-quality example. These folks, well into their 80’s, 90’s, and even 100’s are still vibrant, well-postured, strong, and happy. This is far too uncommon a sight in the Western World, but it is very much common where ever-rejuvenative yoga is practiced regularly. Their movements are crisp. Their eyes are clear. And many of them appear to be in the prime of their lives!

Yoga stimulates the body. That’s how it works. By placing demands on the muscular, skeletal, and lymphatic systems, along with many of the body’s internal organs, you are unlocking the body’s ability to heal, repair, and recharge itself. This is a fountain of youth that’s already inside you now, just waiting to be tapped.

The ultimate result is that practicing yoga on a regular basis may very well help you fend off certain diseases. Likewise, it can keep you looking and feeling many years younger, and performing accordingly. You can slow the process of wrinkling, greying, and overall aging.

Likewise, many common afflictions that we are faced with today, including eating disorders, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, and heightened levels of constant stress, can begin to disappear. Yes, you can enjoy a calmer, more centered life by practicing the life-rejuvenating art of yoga.

If improved muscularity, flexibility, circulation, energy, well-being, stamina, and youthfulness are attributes you would like to attract into your own life, perhaps you’d be wise to take a closer look at yoga. Begin researching various centers in your area, invest in DVD instruction, or simply go online to learn more about this incredible, life-enhancing practice today.

9 Foods that Combat Wrinkles

A proper diet can help us maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you don’t want to have creases on your face or your skin, you should know what wrinkle fighting foods are good to eat. Here are nine examples.

The power of food to combat many of life’s most common health challenges is well-known. It stands to reason that by providing your body exactly what it needs to thrive, it will do just that. This is as true for smoothing out wrinkles on your skin as it is for anything else.

Here are 9 foods that have been shown to combat wrinkles:

1. Flaxseed.

It is commonly known that foods high in Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are amazing for the skin. They keep it smooth, soft, tight, and lubricated. Flaxseed contains high levels of these fatty acids, and can be very effective at combatting facial and body wrinkles.

2. Cacao.

Containing many agents beneficial to skin health, cacao has been shown to combat UV damage. Obviously, this can slow down the aging process significantly. Likewise, it can level out oxygen levels throughout the body. Too much oxygen can actually increase the aging process.

3. Spinach.

Lutein is a substance that keeps the skin elastic, firm, and hydrated. Raw, green veggies contain high amounts of lutein. Spinach is one of the best sources of this substance, and should be eaten liberally. A good four ounces of raw spinach a day will provide you with all the lutein you need to enjoy a more youthful complexion… naturally!

4. Goji berries.

These are super concentrated capsules of vitamin C. Containing up to 500 times the amount of vitamin C, ounce-for-ounce, that’s contained in oranges, Goji berries are antioxidant powerhouses. But it doesn’t stop there. Other essential nutrients for the skin are contained in high doses within these dark little berries. B and E vitamins and healthy fats can give the skin a plumper, healthier, and more youthful overall appearance.

5. Turkey.

Also rich in B vitamins, this low-fat, high-protein meat that can literally slow the aging process in the skin!

6. Avocados.

Not only is this fruit delicious and satisfying, it is also highly beneficial for the skin. Its healthy, all-natural fats and oils are awesome for clearing and plumping the skin. Some individuals even mash avocado and apply it topically, as a mask of sorts. Its high alkaline base calms, soothes, and gently cleanses the skin of impurities.

7. Oatmeal.

Whole rolled oats keep the body clean and pure. As with avocado, oatmeal is also commonly used as a topical. Some people actually use raw oats as a natural exfoliant. This keeps the skin well-cleansed, fresh, bright, and wrinkle-free.

8. Salmon.

We already discussed the power of consuming foods rich in Omega fatty acids. Well, salmon is certainly one of the best. Along with flaxseed, this particular food can keep the skin well-lubricated. It also fights off inflammation and yes, wrinkles!

9. Water.

Yes, this MUST be included in the list! Purified water is your absolute greatest ally in the fight against premature aging and wrinkling. Drink as much of it throughout the day as you can handle. Water cleans out the body, hydrates the skin, and helps all those other good nutrients your consuming reach the cells they need to reach more thoroughly and efficiently.

This is a powerful list and should get you started combatting age lines and other wrinkles right away. A diet high in the foods listed above will not only assist you in handling your wrinkle woes, but they will also go a long way toward improving your overall skin… and health.

There are more foods you can add to this list, such as berries, tomatoes, beans, beetroot, and bell peppers. The important thing is that you act on this information, and not just read it.

The very best way to pull this off is to consume your food throughout the day, as opposed to only at meal times. Figure out how much food you’re going to eat during the day. The types and amounts of food you’re going to consume should be determined in advance. You don’t want to fall into the trap of trying to figure this stuff out as you go.

Once you’ve got your daily food allowance figured out, do your best to eat small portions all day long. Have one small item now and another small item in an hour. Spread your calories out. Are you trying to get in “bathing suit” condition for the summer?

It is important that you constantly focus on WHY you want to lose the weight. This will provide you with the motivation required to stick to your new eating plan. 7 Ways to Lose Weight While Still Dining Out

Impossible. It’s just plain impossible to lose fat and get in shape if you continue eating at your favorite restaurants… right? Actually, it’s not only totally possible to drop weight while enjoying a great night out; it’s actually quite simple to do! And by following the 7 simple tips listed below, you’ll be well on your way!

7 Ways to Lose Weight While Still Dining Out:

1. Don’t drink your calories!

Far too many excess calories are unnecessarily consumed via beverages. This is especially true in a restaurant setting, where alcohol and/or soft drinks accompany almost every meal. If you can make due with a nice glass of water or unsweetened tea, you’ll be much better off. Diet soda would be the next best choice, but is by no means ideal, due to all the chemicals contained within it.

2. Embrace those raw veggies!

Starting your meal with a fresh, green salad is a VERY good idea. There are a number of reasons for this. For starters, salad contains nutrient-dense foods that helps your body feel satisfied. Veggies can also help you to burn calories! Just be sure to have your server hold any croutons or cheese that may come with it. And try to be mindful of the dressing you choose to put on it. Oil and vinegar, for example, is a much smarter option than ranch.

3. Repeat after me… Appetizer shmappetizer!

Do you know that some appetizers have more calories and fat than the main course? Plus, many appetizers are fried and served with heavy sauces which will add to your intake of saturated fat as well as trans fats and calories. It’s not a healthy way to start your meal.

Who needs ’em, anyway? Really, most appetizers in most restaurants are anything but supportive of an individual’s weight loss goals. Saturated trans fats combined with chemically processed ingredients and ultra fattening sauces make for a whole lot of ugliness inside your body. Skip the apps and opt for a salad or homemade soup (preferably not cream-based) instead.

4. Choose your entree wisely!

Go for broiled and grilled rather than fried. Not only will you save calories and fat grams, you’ll also avoid trans fats which are so prevalent in fried foods. Instead, consider asking for a doubles order of vegetables with your entree. Very few Americans are getting the 7-9 servings of fruits and vegetables recommended for optimal health. Plus, by avoiding the starch, you’ll be reducing your caloric and carbohydrate load. Also, stick to tomato based sauces rather than cream based and you’ll enjoy a considerable calorie savings.

While we’ve already discussed the importance of eating salad before your meal, it may be an even better idea to eat your salad AS a meal. Most restaurants have main course salads on their menu. Just be sure to opt for grilled meats rather than fried. Go light on the cheese. Make an intelligent dressing choice. If you’d rather not go with a salad, try to order a menu item that hasn’t been deep fried or overly processed. A nice, grilled piece of fish with some rice and veggies on the side is always a good choice.

5. Get your sauces and dressings on the side!

Remember, nobody cares about your health and weight loss goals as much as you do. For this reason, you cannot trust a restaurant to take it easy with regards to your dressings and sauces. As a result, you are certainly encouraged to take control of your caloric intake by requesting that your sauces come on the side, in a separate bowl or ramekin. You may actually be surprised by how little of this stuff you actually need to make your food taste amazing. And you will feel wonderful about those extra calories you’ve spared yourself.

6. Make friends with portion control!

The truth of the matter is that more and more restaurants pride themselves on offering gigantic portions of food. You may not be able to order a half-sized portion, but if you can, then opt for it. If not, though, then you should really consider asking for a “to-go box” before you ever even take your first bite. Put half your meal in the box and only eat what’s left on your plate.

7. Dessert? We don’t need no steenking dessert!

What’s the fastest way to obesity? Sugar. What’s the number one thing you should strive to avoid at all costs? Drugs. But sugar runs a close 2nd! So don’t do it. Instead, have some sweet natural treats waiting for you when you get home. Fresh, juicy grapes eaten with raw almonds make an unbelievably delectable and satisfying dessert.

By simply adhering to these seven powerful tips, you are definitely setting yourself up for healthy weight loss success. In fact, this advice will serve you well whether you’re eating out or dining at home. This is time-tested stuff here. All you need to do is act upon it

Tips For Beating Acne

The first step to beating acne is to understand what doesn’t cause breakouts. There’s so much false information about acne that it’s sometimes difficult to know what to believe. This can lead to frustration when your treatment methods don’t work. Here are four things that definitely don’t cause acne!

  1. Acne is not caused by poor hygiene. Washing too much can actually harm the skin, which results in more severe acne breakouts. Acne is caused by skin cells or excess oil becoming trapped in hair follicles, which can eventually lead to inflammation and redness. Cleansing alone cannot stop this process.
  2. On a similar note, acne isn’t caused by dirt. There’s a common misconception that blackheads are small pieces of dirt trapped in the skin. This isn’t true – blackheads occur when dead skin cells build up underneath the surface of the skin. Again, washing more doesn’t prevent this process from happening.
  3. Eating too much chocolate won’t cause acne. In fact, chocolate (in moderation) can reduce stress, which may actually help to treat acne! There’s a lot of research into the link between acne and diet, but unfortunately there’s still no clear consensus on how much impact your diet has. Eating too much chocolate, French fries or other types of food probably isn’t going to have a negative effect though.
  4. Acne is definitely not a contagious condition – you can’t catch it from someone else.

Tips for Beating Acne At Home

The following tips can help you to reduce the effects of acne, and make the condition more manageable. If you suffer from severe acne, you should visit a dermatologist who may be able to prescribe stronger treatments than those listed here.

  1. You should wash your skin once or twice a day, but no more than that. If you wash your skin too much you may cause irritation. Use a cleanser when washing, and don’t use very hot water.
  2. Avoid squeezing spots. This can lead to permanent scars, and nearly always causes the spot to take longer to heal.
  3. Wearing excessive amounts of makeup may contribute to the severity of acne breakouts. While makeup won’t cause acne on its own, too much can make the condition worse. When you do wear makeup on affected areas of skin, try to use water-based cosmetic products. These are much less likely to block pores, meaning fewer outbreaks and healthier skin.
  4. Stress is another contributing factor to the severity of an acne outbreak. If you feel stressed about work, school or anything else, try to find strategies to deal with your problems.
  5. Exercise releases hormones that reduce stress, so you should try to exercise regularly. Exercise isn’t a cure for acne, but may help control the severity of outbreaks. Even if it doesn’t directly help your acne, staying in shape can increase your self esteem.

It’s important to keep in mind that changes in acne can take several months, so don’t be disheartened if your outbreaks don’t improve immediately.

Home Remedies For Dry Skin

There are a number of reasons why your skin may become dry. If you take hot showers, for example, this can remove moisture from the skin. Some people are more likely to suffer from dry skin simply because of their genetics. Fortunately, there are a number of home remedies for dry skin that can solve the problem effectively.

Keep in mind that these home remedies are no substitute for professional medical care. If you suffer from persistent dry skin, you should make an appointment with a dermatologist.

Honey is a commonly used home remedy for dry skin, and can be highly effective. Simply apply a small amount of honey to your skin, rub it in and leave it to settle for around ten minutes. Then wash it off thoroughly in the bath or shower.

Why does it work? Honey stops moisture from evaporating from the skin, and also contains antioxidants that are present in many expensive skin products.

Curd is also effective at reducing the effects of dry skin. Again, leave it on the skin for around ten minutes before washing. You can even mix it with some honey for an added boost of moisture.

Why does it work? Curd has similar properties to honey, as it contains antioxidants and hydrates the skin. It also contains natural anti-inflammatory properties, which can soothe painful dry skin.

Eggs, Orange Juice and Olive Oil

This remedy isn’t as pleasant as honey, but can still be useful. Start by mixing an egg yolk with a tablespoon of both olive oil and orange juice. Then apply the mixture to the dry areas of skin in the morning, leaving it for around 10-15 minutes before washing.

Why does it work? Olive oil helps to lock moisture into the skin. Egg yolk is also a natural moisturizer. If you suffer from oily skin, it’s best to avoid oil based mixtures though.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E capsules can be bought from any health store, and can be useful for treating dry skin at home. Cut a couple of capsules in half, and collect the oil inside.
